Mrs. Leigh Burton is a native of Anderson, South Carolina. She holds a
Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Clemson University and a Master of
Education Degree in School Administration from Furman University. She began her teaching career as a special education teacher at
Southside High School in Greenville County.
Over a span of twenty years, Mrs. Burton has served as an
instructional facilitator, assistant principal and principal in Anderson School
District Five. Mrs. Burton currently serves as Director of Special Services in
Anderson School District Three. The philosophy of the Special Services
Department is to provide each student with an individualized program designed
to meet the student’s needs as an exceptional learner in accordance with Individuals
with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504, and the Americans with
Disabilities Act. The goal is to enable each student to utilize the potential
that he/she possesses to become a well-adjusted contributing member of society.
We believe that each student, regardless of exceptionality, is entitled to this
opportunity in the least restrictive environment.
Mrs. Burton and her
husband Wayne have four children and reside in Anderson. They enjoy being in the country, camping and
the Clemson Tigers. Mrs. Burton is proud to work in Anderson School District
Three with such an amazing staff, students and community.
